Brief Summary (not part of the report) Treasurer's Report (John Mills)The year 2005-6 showed a surplus of just over £8,400. Much of this is accounted for by the 2005 Conference which, as one of the largest for many years, made a surplus of just over £6,000. Capital reserves are also healthy. The Conference account is distinct from the general account and could be managed separately. President's Report (John Saxbee) While the President has not always been in personal accord with some of MCU's statements, nonetheless the need for MCU is greater than ever against the twin threats to the Church of over-simplification and unsustainable compromises. Chair's Report (John Plant) In the battles which are currently challenging many traditional approaches to theology and church order, the liberal case needs to be made more audible. Following a meeting with Archbishop Rowan Williams MCU agreed to address issues of adult education and links with foreign theologians. The liberal voice needs to be heard more clearly by ordinary church members and developments with Signs of the Times, publicity and the website will all help. MCU has a particular role in careful and thorough theological reflection. General Secretary's Report (Jonathan Clatworthy) In the midst of a contentious year in Anglicanism we have tried to work with like-minded groups such as Affirming Catholicism, Inclusive Church and the Progressive Christianity Network. The 2005 Conference (our 88th) was one of the biggest in MCU's history. Meeting the Archbishop of Canterbury gave us material to work on. We have a strong administrative team, though we have lost the leadership of Nicholas Henderson: we await the outcome of legal and other processes in relation to the bishopric of Lake Malawi. Modern Believing Editor's Report (Paul Badham) The policy for Modern Believing is to be both the Journal and mouthpiece of the MCU, and an academic Full report: Annual Report .pdf file |
