Issues of Interest

MCU is interested in all aspects of liberal theology and its expression in political and social ethics, in ecclesiastical politics and life, and in spirituality.

A preoccupying concern of many MCU members at the moment is the future of the Anglican Communion - both its structures and its ethos.

In particular, the critical, and most divisive issue is sexuality and the stance taken towards homosexuality in particular. However debate on the subject cannot be divided from debate on authority and the relationship of the Church to its social context.

And we are interested in a wide range of matters - from Jerry Springer to the environment, from ARCIC to vanishing voters.

On each subject page there is an index of relevant articles on this site by keyword. Some of the articles appear under more than one heading. Some of the keywords may seem inappropriate or misleading (or simply irrational) - in which case please let us know and corrections will rapidly be made.

An Author index is here.

The church, by its beauty alone, acts as a sacrament ... Like the plain and the forest, the cathedral has its atmosphere, its fragrance, its light and shadow, its chiaroscuro. The great rose with the setting sun behind it seems, in the hours of the evening, to be the sun itself, at the point of disappearing at the edge of a marvellous forest. But this is a transfigured world, where light is more dazzling than in ordinary life, and shadow more mysterious.
