Theology

MCU aims to promote the Christian Faith as an open, living and growing exploration of truth, engaging reason and experience of God. Theology, ordered reflection on God and faith, is central to this exploration.

Paul Badham is Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Wales, Lampeter. He is the author of The Contemporary Challenge of Modernist Theology and the Editor of Modern Believing. He has written here on Liberal Theology and this is his Encarta article on Modernist Theology.

The Bible, its authority and interpretation, has always been central to liberal theologians - and to reactions against them.

Hell has been a popular theme (here, for example), whilst ARCIC II's report on the place of Mary in the church provoked responses from Jonathan Clatworthy, Mary Roe, and William Frend. Resurrection too has provoked some thought.

A range of theological concerns have been addressed in Modern Believing and Signs of the Times.

Books on theology and on interpreting the Bible are available though the bookshop.

This fragile life between birth and death can nevertheless be a fulfilment - if it is a dialogue. If in our life and experience we are addressed; by thought, speech and action, by producing and influencing we are able to answer. ... if the word comes to us and the answer proceeds from us then human life exists, though brokenly, in the world.
