About Modern Believing

Modern Believing is the journal of the MCU. The latest edition is here (full text).

Editor: Revd. Professor Paul Badham (International Editorial Board)

USA Editor: Professor Ian Markham

Reviews Editor: Revd. Dr Simon Oliver

Paul Badham and Simon Oliver are on the staff of the University of Wales, Lampeter; Ian Markham is Professor of Theology and Ethics and Dean of Hartford Seminary.

Modern Believing is a theological journal in the areas of modern theology, Christian ethics and current affairs. It is committed to theological liberalism. It is also not afraid to challenge the sacred cows of liberalism itself.

Its particular concern is to promote a creative and constructive spirit in theological enquiry and exploration. As the successor to Modern Churchman (articles from the first edition in 1911) and subsequently MC, the journal has a long record of contributions from many church leaders and established theologians.

Books reviewed in Modern Believing may be bought from Amazon through the bookshop: January 2008

2007: April 2007 ~ July 2007 ~ October 2007.

Modern Believing also gives opportunities to new voices. Strongly committed to the ordination of women, the journal has engaged in opening up new and neglected dimensions of religious life. It is important reading for those engaged in academic theology and for those active in church life.

Modern Believing is published quarterly.

Modern Believing is indexed in the ATLA religion database

Modern Believing 'is not only a distinguished academic journal taken by well over a hundred academic libraries, it is also the journal of the Modern churchpeople's Union which has for over a century championed the cause of liberal modernism both within the Anglican Communion and the wider world.'
